Discussion Guide: Eagle of the Ninth, The Silver Branch, The Lantern Bearers
By Rosemary Sutcliff
This trilogy by Rosemary Sutcliff presents an exciting and historical look at Britain in the waning years of the Roman Empire. It traces the life of several generations of one family and how they lived and coped with the changes in the world at the time. The three books are connected through this family and their loyalty to Roman Britain. This guide includes a synopsis for the teacher, discussion questions, and writing prompts for each of the three books in the series.
These are short guides providing discussion questions, writing prompts and activity ideas for novels. Check back regularly as we will be adding new titles each month. They could easily be used as a supplement to your reading or history program since they are not lengthy involved analyses. They may also be used as the basis of a literature based reading program.
